As the prime contractor for this project, Middlesex performed a major refit of the movable bridge machinery, including precision realignment and replacement of the failing bascule leaf span locks, updated control systems, and updates to the hydraulic power units.

The project also required structural repairs to the bridge’s superstructure including the bascule leaf spans, complete blasting and painting of the tub girders, deck joint replacements, wearing surface replacement, traffic safety improvements, replacement of the fender system, and complete rehabilitation and renovation of the bridge control tower building. The project is located in a busy recreational area and required work in an environmentally sensitive waterway, with a focus on minimizing impacts to the surrounding
communities and businesses while the bridge remained open and operational outside of select closure windows.
