The Middlesex Corporation delivered the Southfield Mitigation Area & Shuttle Landing Facility as a CM/GC along with Middlesex Paving services. The project was on two separate sites -Southfield Mitigation Area and Space Shuttle Landing Facility.

Southfield Mitigation Area

After clearing and grubbing 80 acres in wet, standing water, grinding and burning debris; dewatering (consisting of rim ditches, well pointing, and sock drains), the area was stripped of topsoil and placed in berms and/or hauled to the Shuttle Landing Facility. Site excavation provided material for local fill and at the Shuttle Facility. The finished site was then planted with special wetland plantings to regain habitat and provide erosion control for years to come.

Shuttle Landing Facility

After gopher tortoises were safely relocated, the site was cleared, grubbed and either burned or ground/mulched on site. The site was stripped of topsoil and then excavated to grade. The site was raised an average of 5’ over 200K SY. An asphalt paved access road was added with utilities to make connections from north to south more efficient.
