Walk Bridge Replacement CM/GC
Norwalk, CT
Connecticut Department of Transportation
Complete replacement of the existing 1896 bridge superstructure and substructure.
The New Haven Line Railroad Bridge (Walk Bridge) over the Norwalk River in Norwalk was constructed in 1896. The existing four-span Walk Bridge consists of a rim-bearing swing span and three fixed approach spans. The structure carries four tracks of Metro-North commuter rail and Amtrak as well as freight carriers. Approximately 200 trains per day use the structure.
This project involves the complete replacement of the existing 1896 bridge superstructure and substructure using the CM/GC process. To improve the reliability of the corridor, the replacement structure will consist of twin double-track structures, with each bridge having independently operated movable spans.
