The Niantic River Bridge Replacement is a joint venture with Cianbro, combining heavy/civil bridge and rail work for Amtrak. The new bridge replaced a 2-track, bascule bridge, 58’ offline at the same site. Construction of the new retained fills and a new electrified railroad was provided.

East Lyme’s Niantic Bay Overlook Walkway was replaced and 70K CY of new beach replenishment was constructed. The bascule cofferdam required a continuous 2.7K CY of concrete tremie placement. Construction included the installation of 118K SF of prestressed concrete sheet pile and 5,700’ of 16” and 18” precast anchor pile.

Additionally, Middlesex placed 60.5K tons of stone revetment, dredged the channel, provided beach replenishment, furnished and installed new ballast and track as well as new catenary structures and wiring.
