Reconfiguration of Route 17 On-Ramp Onto Route 9 North in Middleton, CT
The Middlesex Corporation provided the Connecticut Department of Transportation with roadway safety improvements on Route 9 in Middleton, CT in the vicinity of Route 17.
The project involves reconfiguration of the Route 9/Route 17 ramps. The existing stop controlled on-ramp to Route 9 NB from Harbor Drive will be eliminated. The Route 9 roadway will be horizontally realigned at the on-ramp from Route 17 NB to eliminate the stop sign at the end of the on-ramp. The Route 9 embankment will be widened by approximately 25 feet toward the west to accommodate an additional lane to extend the on-ramp from Route 17 NB. The project includes replacement/widening of Bridge Number 00638 and constructing 2 new proprietary retaining walls along the southbound side of Route 9. The existing on-ramp to Route 17 from Main Street Extension will be shifted approximately 100 feet toward the south to form a 4-way intersection with the Route 9 SB off-ramp which terminates at Main Street Extension. The remaining portions of the project will consist of essentially at-grade reconstruction of the roadway including milling and paving, guardrail, signs, pavement markings, landscaping, and other incidental items.
