Middlesex has come a long way from our humble beginnings as a local paving company, but we’ve never forgotten our roots. Today, we’re ranked by ENR as the 203rd largest contractor in the country out of more than 35,000 construction companies and among the Top 50 Domestic Heavy/Civil Contractors.

We are headquartered in Littleton, Massachusetts, with local regional headquarters in Orlando, Florida, and localized site offices in Meriden, Connecticut, and Tampa, Florida.

1972 - Middlesex Paving was established and founded by Robert W. Pereira.

1974

1974 - Middlesex Paving changes its name to The Middlesex Corporation.

1980

1980 - The Middlesex Corporation expanded into General Contracting Services.
Expanded into general contracting services, including heavy/highway, bridge, rail and marine projects

1986

The Middlesex Corporation, 1972.
Formed Middlesex Bituminous, Inc.

1992

1992 - The Middlesex Corporation earns it's first Florida Project - FDOT I-95.
Successfully awarded multiple projects in Florida and initiated the Southeast Division

1998

1998 - The Middlesex Corporation moved all SE operations to Leesburg, Florida.

Brightman Street Bridge in Fall River, MA for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. The Middlesex Corporation, 2007.
Secured MassDOT Brightman Street Bridge project; the largest joint venture project in company history at the time.

2011

This project consisted of the construction of a 5.85 mile segment of the Busway that begins just north of Cedar Street in Newington and runs north to a point just north of Sigourney Street in Hartford. The project also included the construction of seven stations in New Britain, Newington, West Hartford and Hartford, a new bridge at Flatbush Avenue in West Hartford, and the construction of a new gravel access road for Amtrak.
Awarded CTDOT Fasttrack project, the largest Connecticut project in company history at the time.

2012

The construction of the Kenneth F. Burns Memorial Bridge was a complex and high-profile project that replaced a structurally deficient, 7-span concrete arch bridge built in 1916 with 2 new bridges over Lake Quinsigamond, between Worcester and Shrewsbury, MA. The new bridges are 870’ long, 5-span open spandrel steel deck arches founded on 36” diameter pipe piles up to 290’ deep. The project also included reconstructed portions of Lake Avenue and Route 9 and contains many architectural features.

2017

The Green Line Extension project is a design-build, railroad project that spans throughout Cambridge, Somerville, and Medford, MA for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). This project, with Fluor, Balfour Beatly Infrastructure, Inc., and Herzog Contracting Group, extended the MBTA Green Line from a relocated Lechmere Station in East Cambridge to Union Square in Somerville and College Avenue in Medford.
Awarded MBTA Green Line Extension joint venture project; first billion dollar project in company history.

2018

The Middlesex Corporation provided civil, site, and structural improvements for Amtrak’s installation of 26 miles of second track between Hamden and Windsor, Connecticut. Known as the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield Double Track (NHHS) project, the work conducted earned the 2017 Arthur Gruhn Excellence in Construction for a Challenging Project and the 2018 Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Connecticut Chapter, Excellence in Construction Award.

Project P-381 Multi-Mission Drydock #1 is a joint venture, bid build project, won in 2021 and expected to be completed in 2026. Located in Kittery, Maine at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for the NAVFAC, the project is valued at $1.1B.
